United States Senator Michael Bennet becomes the latest politician to call for the removal of TikTok, as Bennet detailed in a letter to Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Apple CEO Tim Cook expressing his concerns about TikTok being available on their respective app stores, via documents.
Bennet writer the letter that calls on the CEOs to remove the app entirely, and comes as questions continue to swirl about the ByteDance short form video apps future in the United States amid data sharing concerns.
As of this writing, there has been no official word that the letter had received a reply, and the United States government has not announced any sort of ban on TikTok within the country, but there is certainly mounting pressure to make it happen.
Two United States senators introduced a bill back on December 13th, 2022 that would ban TikTok from operating within the country, and on January 25th, 2023, senator Josh Hawley introduced his own bill that would ban the app in the US.
