YouTube is rolling out a new approach to it’s policy enforcement procedures on the platform, implementing the launch of training courses for creators that violate specific platform policies instead of initially applying a strike to their respective channels.
The aim of this new approach is to educate creators as opposed to simply punishing them, with the belief that educating creators will create a much better understanding of conduct on the platform as well as enriching the collaborative process.
YouTube issued the following on Monday:
“Starting today, creators will have the option of taking an educational training course when they receive a Community Guidelines warning. These resources will provide new ways for creators to understand how they can avoid uploading content that violates our policies in the future. Completion of the course will lift the warning from a creator’s channel – so long as they don’t violate the same policy for 90 days.”
Prior to this new implementation, any violating video would be removed from YouTube and a lifetime warning (strike) would be applied to the channel. While YouTube will still removed content from their platform that violates their TOS, this new policy will give them more opportunities to correct any mistake, and get their channel back in the good graces of YouTube, avoiding any associated penalties.
“If the creator violates the same policy after 90 days, we’ll remove the video and issue another warning” the statement from YouTube continues. “The creator will have the option of taking a new training course.”
“This means more opportunities to learn why their content may have crossed the line, and they’ll also have the ability to take multiple learning courses at the same time.”
