The Google owned service, which starts at $72.99 per month in the United States, has claimed the top spot as the biggest internet-streaming subscription TV service in the country, followed by Hulu+ Live TV (owned by Disney) which has 4.6 million customers as of the end of Q3 and by Dish’s Sling TV which boasts 2.1 million and then Fubo with around1.5 million.
Comcast’s Xfinity TV, which reported a 2023 year-end total of 14.1 million to stake a claim as the #1 cable TV operator in the United States, has seen a year-over-year drop of 2 million as traditional TV continues to see a dip in numbers.
“This year, we’ll continue to deliver a best-in-class experience for subscriptions and YouTube in the living room,” YouTube TV CEO Neal Mohan wrote in a blog post that announced the impressive milestone.
One of the big accelerators has been YouTube TVs acquisition of thee NFL Sunday Ticket package, which move from it’s long-time home at DirecTV after 29 years in a 7-year, $14 billion deal, a deal that Mohan pointed to saying it “shows the future of YouTube.”
“We’re bringing everything viewers love about YouTube to the living room experience. And that includes sports.”
Additionally, the YouTube Partner Program now has 3 million channels and has paid creators, artists and media companies $70 billion over the past three years, more than any other creator monetization platform in the industry.
“Creators are thinking about how to optimize their content for the living room, and it’s easy to see why – it’s where their audience is watching!” Mohan added.
