TikTok is looking to optimize the way Creators and their Paying Subscribers engage on their platform. Sub Space is a new option within TikTok’s Live subscription tools and is apparently on the way.
The new engagement featured, which is called ‘Sub Space’, is a subscriber only, chat-style addition to the platform that is geared towards incentivizing more subscriptions sign-ups via a greater focus during live chats, and also includes polls exclusive to subscribers (h/t Jonah Manzano).
Whenever a Sub Space is created, creators will have the ability to either engage and respond within chats via a live video stream, or a general text chat communication. The live video aspect is appealing as it provides subscribers a more dedicated interaction, in real time, and may have the highest potential to directly impact retention and boost sales.
This is all part of TikTok’s mission to make live-streaming a much bigger part of the app, as they continue to square off with YouTube Shorts in that regard.
What causes hesitation is the lack of traction regarding TikTok’s in-stream shopping options, at least in the United States, but the platform is holding out hope that, over time, it can turn that trend around, especially if they continue to leverage in-app transactions and the growth of TikTok’s utilization as a search tool.
