Spotify’s CEO Daniel Ek has commented on the recent deal that the company reached with UFC commentator and podcaster Joe Rogan which will see his popular podcasts ‘Joe Rogan Experience Podcasts’ will be headed exclusively to Spotify.
The deal was worth a reported $250 million and would bring Rogan’s podcast to the platform, which marks an $150 million increase on his initial deal, according to the Wall Street Journal’s Anne Steele.
The deal is also reportedly a multi-year deal.
Spotify losing the exclusive rights to Rogan might be seen as a negative, but Ek doesn’t see it that way.
“By broadening distribution, we think we can accomplish a number of different goals. Most notable among them, we are going to be aligned with the creator,” Ek said to Spotify investors back on February 6th. “The creator wants to be on many different platforms and wants to have as big of an audience as possible.”
