Popular YouTube content creator and entrepreneur Jimmy ‘MrBeast’ Donaldson is set to supplant Indian record label T-Series on the platform as the most subscribed channel on YouTube but is concerned that the battle for the top spot could become “racist”.
Both channels are forging towards 300 million subscribers and T- Series has even urged their fans to come together in an attempt to fend of MrBeast’s challenge for the top spot, with MrBeast seemingly confident he will accomplish the feat that others, such as PewDiePie, couldn’t.
During a recent interview with Jon Youshaei, MrBeast explained how during his quest to help PewDiePie compete with T-Series back in 2018 he wasn’t a fan of things becoming “nationalistic”, something he is concerned may occur again.
“It got a little ‘this country versus that country’… I don’t think Felix [PewDiePie] took it there but it even got a little racist in the sub-war before. So, I’m very cognizant of it… which is why I’m not leaning into it too hard” he said.
MrBeast would go on to say that he is concerned it could morph into some sort of America vs. India debate.
“I just want to be the most subscribed to channel” he continued. “Yes, I have a lot of people helping me, but at the end of the day, I started this channel, I live and breathe this, I am a creator. I do think it’s nice, a bit of symbolism that a creator is the most subscribed-to channel.
“Not knocking on [T-Series], but they are a corporation with probably a thousand times more employees than me.”
“We gotta draw a line in the sand. I need to make it clear- I love India” he proclaimed.
“I have fans in India. You guys are awesome. It has nothing to do with that. A lot of idiots will just start tweeting ‘India sucks.., Go crush them, Jimmy!’ and I’m like, ‘Okay?’ That’s where a lot of my audience is, but, okay.”
