The Stake owned video game streaming platform Kick is again in the news for the wrong reasons as an ex-employee of the company has stated that the company offered less money to a Twitch streamer with cancer.
Furthermore, the employee accuses Kick’s staff of being racist and discriminating against streamers who have Autism or are battling cancer.
The ex-employee, Melissa (ItsMelissaDude) posted the following video on YouTube exposing the company:
Additionally, Melissa is using her social media account to show how Kick has treated her since her departure, including that the company claims that she was fired for “ridiculous reasons” when in fact Melissa claims that she quit to “get away from the bullshit unethical behavior” and even questioning if their retaliatory conduct towards her is legal.
Melissa says that her decision to leave the platform when Kick was attempting to lure a “very beloved” Twitch streamer to join the platform and partake in gambling.
“This particular streamer had been publicly battling cancer recently, so, they decided to utilize that in their strategy to get this person over” she explained in the video (h/t Dexerto). “The conversation very quickly became quite sinister.”
Melissa went on to recall a quote from one of the Kick staff – “We can get her on Kick streaming Stake for a relatively low price, because she probably thinks she’s gonna die soon and she’ll want to leave more money for her family.”
In late May, following her announcement that she stepped down from her role at Kick, she shared that the company sent her a cease and desist for announcing her departure.
Given the constant content issues Kick is seemingly always engulfed in, seeing how the company allegedly is treating staff and how they view streamers with diseases and disabilities is a new layer of concern.
