Twitch’s domination over the video game live streaming scene has been quite the journey over the past decade, and despite a massive push from competition such as YouTube to take away some of the biggest Twitch streamers from the platform, the tide is turning.
According to GameRant, YouTube streamers, like Myth and FaZe Swagg, are switching to Twitch for better revenue and features, and noted that many are flocking back to the Amazon owned platform because Twitch offers a better chat system and revenue streams despite the risk of negatively impacting the viewer experience due to the current advertising structure that many have deemed aggressive.
Despite YouTube’s efforts, Twitch continues to lead the charge in gaming streams, and according to Streamlabs data Twitch currently outpaces YouTube Gaming by about 3 billion hours of watchtime.
Twitch is still dealing with it’s own issues, as viewership for Twitch gaming in Q2 2024 has dipped below Q4 2020 levels and the launch of rival-platform Kick has put more pressure on the company to make changes that are more appealing to creators.
