Imane ‘Pokimane’ Anys is at the center of discussion in the content creation and streaming world following her announcement that she would be ending her decade-long run on the Twitch streaming platform.
While it has not been clear if Pokimane’s move to YouTube is one that will be permanent, or if she will land on another video game streaming platform, she did post a new episode of her podcast to dive into a bit more content on her decision to leave Twitch.
“If you see Twitch and streaming nowadays, it’s really almost nothing like how it was back then,” Pokimane said during the episode (h/t Dexerto). “Or frankly, I feel like it has regressed a lot. And I think that’s the biggest reason why I have a hard time wanting to devote all of my time and all of my energy to just streaming.”
Pokimane would call Twitch a “messy” company and referenced the multiple issues with their policies, particularly the recent artistic nudity fiasco, and concerns over the platform being over-run with inappropriate content over the last year.
“I personally am done with Twitch’s messy behavior in the sense that I’m not done with Twitch, but I’m done with, like, being emotionally invested in the changes that this company is doing,” she explained.
As for what’s next, Poki said she will enjoy the freedom of testing out other platforms.
“So moving forward, I’m going to try streaming on other platforms” Pokimane said. “How exciting. I’m going to try streaming on YouTube and TikTok and Instagram, and now I’m just going to have fun,” she explained. “I just want to be able to partake in different platforms and things either as I see fit or as I find excitement in doing it.”
What is interesting is that she didn’t mention Kick, one of the newest direct competitors to Twitch, but it’s not surprising when considering her critical comments regarding the platform over the last year.
Additionally, she is taking part in an event that will air on YouTube on February 1st:
