YouTube has officially rolled out an updated version of the YouTube TV app following a few weeks of testing and previewing, and it comes with the ability to minimize the size of the playback window.
The new updates places an emphasis on adding more focus to engaging with other elements of the platform experience for users.
While the YouTube TV display will primarily remain in full-screen format, users can now have the ability to reduce the video screen size to explore the other features and functions, such as comments, channel info, links, and more.
According to YouTube: “What users will be able to see on their TVs is a design solution that keeps the video front and center, but layers in the ability to access the features that make YouTube unique – all without interrupting the viewing experience.”
YouTube says that the update will now make it easier for users to access features such as video descriptions, while also facilitating potential development opportunities in the future, such as “viewing live scores for sports fans”, for example.
It also improves the navigation aspect of the platform for people using their TV remote, which is important given the ease of use on Netflix, Hulu, Peacock, etc using a TV remote.
